Senior Structural Engineering Lead
We are seeking a licensed Structural Engineer (PE or SE) to lead and grow our structural design team within our established, family-owned civil engineering firm. You will oversee residential and small-to-midsize commercial projects while positioning our firm to take on larger, more complex structural opportunities. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in a collaborative team environment, values direct client interaction, and enjoys mentoring junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing structural engineering team; assign project resources, conduct design reviews, and foster professional development across the department.
Project Management: Oversee structural projects from initial proposal through construction administration—managing budgets, project schedules, resource allocation, and deliverables.
Structural Engineering & Design: Perform and review structural calculations and structural drawings for wood, steel, concrete, and masonry construction across custom residential, multi-family, and commercial applications.
Client & Inter-Discipline Coordination: Serve as the primary structural point of contact for clients, architects, contractors, and internal civil engineering teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
Business & Service Expansion: Work alongside firm leadership to refine technical standards, streamline workflows, and position the firm to capture larger commercial and institutional structural projects.
Qualifications & Requirements
Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) license required.
Experience: 6–10+ years of progressive structural engineering experience, including direct experience managing projects and leading junior/staff engineers.
Technical Expertise: Proven background in residential and small-to-midsize commercial structural design. Thorough knowledge of regional building codes, seismic/wind loads, and material standards.
Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with structural analysis tools (e.g., Enercalc) and CAD/BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit).
Leadership & Mindset: Strong interpersonal skills, a team-first attitude, and an interest in making a meaningful impact within a growing, close-knit 10-person firm.
Land Surveyor
We are seeking a licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to lead and expand our survey department within our established, family-owned civil engineering firm. In this hands-on role, you will manage boundary, topographic, planning and scheduling for the survey crew, collection and reduction of data collected in the field, work with the Civil Engineering team to collect data, prepare plans, perform staking, and field checks. Work with clients and Cities/Counties to prepare maps, subdivisions, and more.
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, organize, and mentor our surveying team (field crews and CAD technicians); schedule field work, assign resources, and ensure high standards for field safety and data quality.
Project Management: Manage land surveying projects from initial client contact and scoping through field execution, boundary resolution, plat preparation, and final delivery, ensuring projects stay on budget and schedule.
Field & Office Execution: Perform complex boundary analysis, resolve legal property lines, review survey calculations, and prepare record maps, ALTA/NSPS surveys, parcel maps, subdivision plats, and easement descriptions.
Inter-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with our internal civil engineering team to provide precise topographic surveys, utility mapping, and site control to support civil design and construction administration.
Client & Agency Coordination: Serve as the primary contact for landowners, developers, contractors, and public agencies (e.g., Contra Costa County and local municipalities) for map submittals and plan checks.
Qualifications & Requirements
Licensure: Active California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required (or LSI on a fast track to PLS).
Experience: 5–10+ years of progressive land surveying experience, including hands-on experience with boundary determination, topographic mapping, construction layout, and team management.
Technical Expertise: Thorough understanding of California Subdivision Map Act, public land survey system (PLSS), legal descriptions, and local agency submittal processes in the Bay Area.
Software & Hardware Proficiency: Skilled in Civil 3D/AutoCAD for survey mapping and drafting. Experience with modern survey technology, including Total Stations, GPS/GNSS, Robotic systems, data collectors, and optionally 3D Laser Scanning/Drones (UAV).
Leadership & Mindset: Strong communication skills, a collaborative team-first attitude, and a desire to help grow a family-owned engineering practice.
